To piggyback a bit off of the last reblog - we here at Treebark Week would love to see even more event weeks dedicated to fanwork creation! We are a fairly established one, but as long as you've got even a small community and have people interested in participating, it's relatively easy to think of a prompts list, choose some dates, and get the word out.
Fanwork weeks are a lot of fun, and we think it'd be lots of fun to see some more! If you organize an event week and send us the info, we'll reblog the post to help promo it 💪💪 Let's all have fun together!

...And scene!
Thank you everyone for participating in Treebarkweek2023! This was our third event and we're so happy for the enthusiam that the event has recieved, and to the new gamemode for the event. It’s been a delight to see insanely talented people in the tag- there's been a lot of fics, poetry, lyrics, drawings, and even other crafts like jewelry and cosplay- all absolutely amazing!
We’re so thankful for the reception, and we're so incredibly happy that we were able to have an opportunity to make content that we all enjoy and to share it with others.
We’ll continue to reblog all the art under the event tag #treebarkweek2023 (be sure it's all together or we might miss it!), or you can tag the account on your post. If you feel we missed your post, feel free to send an ask with a link and we'll check it out! Basically, don’t worry if you haven’t finished your project yet. Biggest thank you from us mods, and hoping to see you all again soon!

From someone thinking of doing an mcyt event, is there any knowlage you could spare after your years of doing a quite large scale event? :))
Hello! Oh I got some things yes!
Overall, you want to be super sure you know your public, properly gauge interest, and set a good schedule. Internally, aka the organizers, you need to have from the start the structure of how the event will work but also be able to adapt to change.
Now, going into more detail of all that I've just said:
Know your public!
Define who you want to have in the event- writers, artists, cosplayers- and be sure to have that in mind the whole time. For example, you're going to want to communicate in a way that will call this public to participate, so you probably won't want to make a text as a promo post when you're calling for visual artists.
2. Interest and availability
You need to look around and see if other people seem like they want to participate in something similar to what you're doing, or if you think there's people that could be interested. Interest will go hand in hand with schedules- you want to make sure, ideally, your public won't be busy with another big event when yours happens, otherwise their interest might be split or swayed another way. For example, in october all the artists are doing an inktober-esque event the whole month, so making another completely different event would be a bad move cuz all the artists are already doing something else. Look around and do your best to not have another event happening at the same time (this means events that you think might sway the type of public you're going for- if you were to make a cosplay event at the same time as a random botany event somewhere there's not much problem because the public is different). You can gauge interest in a very numeric way too with polls, which we did for the last event.
3. Event structure
This is for you, the organizer! First of all, better to have help and not do the event alone, for both management reasons and just so you're able to have opinions on your plans. Make sure that befor you advertise, you already have an idea of how the event will go, from start to finish. For this you already need to have checked your public, their interest and availability.
4. Creative solutions!
Now imagine you already have a plan, but if your public they might not be able to do exactly what you planned. You need to be able to think if there's a way of adjusting things so both you and the public are happy and can participate to have a succesful event! This last treebarkweek event we made a weekend mode we called Supernova because when we did an interesst check, the mayority said they could probably only do a few days and not the whole week, so we provided an alternative that would be for three days only, apart from the prompts from the entire week. Be creative to find solutions if there's ever problems!
Aaaaaaand that's it, I think! We actually have a lot going on behind the scenes, so this was longer than it might've been expected, so sorry! (Mod 2 is writing this and as a note I might have let the marketing classes get the best of me here).
Anyway, take your time sitting down and planning things and if you can have help, that's even better! Lots of things I probably can't give advice on because there's some things that depend on what the event is about, but hopefully this was able to give an idea to the basics. Good luck!
